ALL ABOUT WATER

Mimi Seton spent much of her childhood in a progressive boarding school located on an organic farm in the Adirondacks Mountains, where visionary educators nurtured her life-long love of the natural world. Like so many artists, much of her work is inspired by nature, but not all. Mimi is an intuitive and improviser who enjoys exploring various mediums for different purposes, from serving the pleasure we take in the pure aesthetics of line, color and form, to creating more socially awake imagery of women and the psychological damage caused by the patriarchy.

1) Abstract paintings and mixed media pieces, inspired by the four elements: earth, air, water and fire

2) Surface Designs created from photos and paintings of plants - modified digitally.

3) Portraits of women, sometimes critiquing psychological issues created by the patriarchy

4) Candid black and white photo portraits capturing moments of intense emotion

5) Photos of ordinary things (like rocks) re-colored to infuse them with surprise

6) Pen and pencil drawings, often satirizing modern life

7) Paintings of angels, gods and goddesses mainly from the Hindu and Christian pantheons

8) Doodles of faces and figures seen through the phenomenon of *pareidolia

• the psychological phenomenon where people perceive a meaningful image in a random visual pattern

  (like cloud formations). This is not a disorder but a natural impulse of the brain to make patterns.
