My PROCESS:

In 2026, Maximalism and bright/deep colors are finally

trending again, so we’re done with grey and black

for a while. This was good news for me because,

while I do love Minimalism in all the arts, my style as a

textile designer is all about vibrant colors.

‍ ‍

  1. First, make a drawing, painting, pen doodle

or photo of leaves and / or petals.

  2. Upload photos of drawings and paintings or photos

of the plant to my computer

  3. Crop, turn, angle, mirror, and multiply the image

in various ways to explore possibilities.

Cut the original photo into smaller pieces.

Collage them in new ways (Japanese Birthday Gift).

  4. When I come to an image that works for my

    way-of-seeing, I often color-enhance it so it

suits the idea of the collection.

‍ ‍

5. Because I am drawn to hanging pictures in 2s and 3s

I create several images using the same basic pattern

in different ways

Japanese Birthday Gift with Japanese Picnic Cloth

is an example of this kind of consonant pairing.

TESTIMONIALS:

"As a contemporary artist, Mimi Seton is brilliant and I don't use that word lightly.  I love contemporary art and when I saw her work, I wished my interiors weren't complete!"

—Michael Beckman, interior decorator, Sacramento, CA.

"The first work of Mimi Seton's that caught my eye was rather abstract, reminding me of tissue collages which allowed me to imagine landscapes, moonscapes, seascapes.  Then she began taking photos of Nature -- leaves, shadows, etc. -- which she manipulates somehow, playing bravely with colour and size.  She creates a sort of trompe l'oeil which begs me to figure out what I'm really seeing at first, and on deeper viewing, become absorbed by the beauty, the feel, the wink, the second created world.  I love her work."

— Mimi Leiber, Actor, Choreographer,  New York City

"About 15 years ago, I purchased a fabulous collage at the Westport Nature Art Show in CT.  It's by Mimi Seton and is titled, 'Stood Up', a moody piece in hues of green, of a woman sitting alone in a cafe. Love it and find it immensely cheery.  Why I find a woman being stood up amusing, I don’t know...perhaps because it’s so relatable. But also it’s the genius of Mimi Seton: she packs whimsy into many of her pieces."

—Jeanne Taylor, Marketing Director, Rowaton Arts Center, CT., USA

"I purchased two handsome, large photos of New York from Mme. Seton when I was re-modeling my apartment in the Majestic in Nice, France.   They look wonderful. A top framer in town said one of them reminded her of Man Ray's work."

-- P.N., business owner, private collector, Paris / Lugano

"I just love looking at the sea scape I bought of Mimi's, 'Mediterranean Light'; it brings me a sense of peace."

— Jennifer Setten, Teacher, Naples, Florida, USA

"Mimi brings out the beauty in ordinary objects that is invisible to the average person. She is a huge-hearted artistic genius of a human being.”

-- Vajra Ma, Author of From a Hidden Stream: the Natural Spiritual Authority of Women

"Mimi is a deeply feminine emissary of the Mother of All Creation. To say she is gifted is an understatement.”

--Francis Rico, healer, author of A Shaman’s Guide to Deep Beauty. (RIP beloved Francis Rico - Oct. 14, 2025)

“Sometimes I don’t know how one person can have so many gifts. Mimi was a terrific actress and singer, improvisational comedian, a truly brilliant composer, lyricist, songwriter, playwright, teacher, recording director…and now an artist and textile designer! What can I say? The woman could stand on her head and do the Fandango. Oh…did I mention she’s fun?”
